What is In-Office Balloon Sinuplasty™
The benefits of Balloon Sinuplasty™ for chronic sinusitis symptoms. These include:
- Safe and Effective – Balloon Sinuplasty™ is safe and effective in relieving symptoms of sinusitis.
- Minimally Invasive – We use small, soft, flexible surgical devices that enter through the nostrils. They gently open blocked sinus openings and in many cases without tissue or bone removal.
- Improved Recovery Time – While recovery time varies with each patient, many people can return to normal activities within 24 hours.
- Does Not Limit Treatment Options – Balloon Sinuplasty technology uses an endoscopic tool and may be used with other sinus surgery techniques or medical therapies. This does not limit future treatment options if your symptoms progress.
What you can expect from Balloon Sinuplasty™
After discussing your symptoms with the Doctor, you may decide that an in-office sinus balloon procedure is right for you. This procedure for chronic sinusitis patients seeking relief from:
- Sinus related facial pain
- Facial pressure
- Sinus headaches
- Discharge of mucus from the nose
- Congestion
- Decreased sense of smell
An in-office sinus balloon procedure is less invasive and has improved recovery because there is no cutting of nasal bone or tissue.
Balloon Sinuplasty is offered in the office under local anesthesia eliminating the need and cost of doing the procedure in an operating room or undergoing general anesthesia.
It uses a balloon catheter which is small and flexible to open up blocked sinus passages so that mucus can drain and prevent builds up. When the sinus balloon is inflated, it restructures and widens the walls of the sinus passageway while maintaining the integrity of the sinus lining.
After Your Procedure
For most patients, the typical time for the procedure is 1 hour. Most of the time is spent numbing the nose in order to maximize comfort. The balloon procedure itself only takes 15-20 minutes on average.
Balloon sinus dilation is performed in-office under local anesthesia and does not require an overnight stay at a hospital. This minimizes downtime compared to regular sinus surgery which is often done at a Surgical Center and typically requires 1-week of post-op down time.
Most insurance companies cover in-office balloon sinuplasty. Check with your insurance company about the extent of your coverage.
